3 Orthodontic books for beginners

1. CONTEMPORARY ORTHODONTICS, PROFFIT

This is the bible of orthodontic books. I haven’t read any orthodontic book that is firmly based on published articles. I recommend thoroughly reading this book a few times.

However, even if you read this book for 10 times, you will have hard time seeing your orthodontic patients. There is huge gap between the foundation you learn from the Proffit and clinical practice of orthodontics.

This is the reason why I decided to make Wow orthodontic seminar. It will fill the gap between them.

2. ESTHETICs AND BIOMECHANICS IN ORTHODONTICS, RAVINDRA NANDA 2014

Dr. Nanda is a world-renowned orthodontist, He teaches at at University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine where Dr. Burstone worked. The school was strength in Biomechanics.

You should read Chapter 8 Management of deep overbite Malocclusion. Great news is you can read the 1st Edition online.

3. The 20 principles of the Alexander discipline. ALEXANDER, Quintessence Publishing; 2008.

I attended Dr. Alexander’s lectures 10 years ago and bought his books there. I was amazed how stable his orthodontic treatment outcomes 30 years after the treatment.

I found some of his philosophy similar to Dr. Tweed technique. There are certainly  quite a few lessons we should learn.

I still refer to his books now. He explained how to use rubber bands at each clinical situations (Cl II finishing, Cl III finishing, open bite, etc)  and I haven’t read any orthodontic book that beat Dr.Alexander’s book.
